Swindon Foodbank
The Food Bank is a ground-breaking concept
designed to help individuals and families in crisis by providing free emergency food until the appropriate agencies are in a position to assist.Tinned and dried food is collected from the public at supermarkets, churches, schools and other local groups and "banked" in a warehouse. Food is then given to people in crisis as a result of referrals from registered care professionals such as Social Services, Health Visitors, and other carers working in the front line.
Food Bank Origins The first food bank was started in Salisbury by The Trussell Trust in 2000. The Trussell Trust is a Christian Charity (Registered Charity no. 11105221, Company no. 5434524) specialising in the development of life-changing sustainable community projects in the UK and Bulgaria.
